This exhibition takes you through the hills and valleys of Bulgaria, from the snowy peaks of the Balkan Mountains to the famed Valley of the Roses. It leads you through significant events in Bulgarian history, including the country's period under the Ottoman empire and its current democratic government. It introduces you to Bulgarian traditions, such as folk dancing, crafts, and holidays. It allows you to explore the cobblestone streets and beautiful architecture found in its historic cities and villages. Finally, it invites you into the hearts of its children, to give you a sense of the warm character of its people.
In 1996, Peace Corps volunteers in Bulgaria helped Bulgarian children celebrate their beautiful and unique country through a nationwide art contest. More than 800 children participated in a contest in which they depicted what Bulgaria means to them. This exhibit represents contest-winning scenes--the scenes that go the farthest to tell Bulgaria's story--all through the fresh and innocent eyes of Bulgarian children.
Now, the children of Bulgaria invite you to experience this special journey through Bulgaria.
