About the Curator

Anissa J. Paulsen developed the "My Bulgaria" children's art exhibition while a Peace Corps volunteer in Momchilgrad, Bulgaria. The exhibition debuted in Bulgaria in 1996 and then traveled to various museums in the United States, including:

Capital Children's Museum, Washington, DC

The White House - during Bulgarian President Petar Stoyanov's visit with President Clinton

The Family Museum, Bettendorf, IA

Portsmouth Children's Museum of Portsmouth, NH

In order to honor the talented Bulgarian children who participated in the exhibition, Anissa created this website. In 2003, the artwork was donated to the World Awareness Children's Museum in Glenview, NY where it continues to travel to interested schools and museums around the United States. In the past, Anissa has worked with renowned institutions including the Smithsonian, Asian Art Museum (San Francisco), Museum of Craft and Folk Art (San Francisco) and the California Historical Society. Anissa currently resides in Jakarta, Indonesia where she is conducting research for a children's museum exhibition on "Islam in Indonesia."
